Frequently asked questions - Homeowners
How long will a driveway last?
We give a 20-year warranty to our products and you can expect a longer life expectancy. When installed correctly, resin bound is incredibly durable and resilient. We work with over 100 ethical, competent and experienced approved installers.
What are aggregate blends?
Aggregate blends are mixtures of various types and sizes of aggregate (stones/gravel) that are combined with resin to create durable and versatile surfacing solution. These blends typically consist of aggregates such as quartz, granite, marble mixed with our Vuba Resin Binder.
Different sizes and colours are used which knit together and create compaction which is very important for durability especially for vehicle traffic.
Typically, how much would a driveway cost per sqm?
Should your driveway already be in good condition, a resin bound overlay would cost around £60-£80 per sqm. If the removal of your existing driveway is required, installation of a new permeable base as well as the resin bound overlay, this would cost approximately £120-£160 per sqm. Locations, material fluctuations, edging patterns and borders can all have an impact on price.
How do I clean it & can it stain?
The resin encapsulated stones hold dirt a lot less than porous black paving or concretes, making for a much easier cleaning experience. Vuba Resin bound surfacing can be jet washed, and with a permeable base, the water simply drains away. View our Aftercare & Cleaning Guide here.
How well does it handle very high/freezing temperatures?
The product can fully freeze and thaw 100's of times without any impact on strength. Permeable pores are contained throughout the system, allowing frost and ice to be pushed out. This is one of the big advantages of the system.
How long does an average install take?
Depending on size of the installers' company , smaller companies can install 150 sqm in a day as a maximum. However, larger companies could achieve 300 sqmor more.
What's the difference between an Approved Vuba installer and a local installer?
An Approved installer we know very well and have supplied for some time. A local installer is one we have only recently begun supplying so haven't seen as many of their projects yet, although they could still be very good! On average 3 installers change to Vuba every week.
What bases should my contractor be laying on?
A real advantage of resin bound is that it can overlay existing old and tired concrete or tarmac (depending on cracks and joints, you may require repair treatments or joints within the resin). We do recommend, however, if you want a fully permeable system that the existing base is removed and replaced with open-grade tarmac. It is not recommended to be installed over flat brick paving. For the best results, we recommend to install a new permeable base such as the Vuba Base, permeable concrete or permeable asphalt.
Why choose VubaMac?
VubaMac is a flexible and highly durable environmentally friendly base designed for resin bound. VubMac will form a montholithic bond with the resin bound surface when applied within the advised intercoaat period; creating the first ever fully functional resin bound surface. Find more information on VubaMac benefits here.
What is the price compared to concrete or other options?
When you start off from scratch, the cost is a little more expensive but is almost maintenance free because it is permeable. As an overlay option of an existing driveway or patio, it can be a lot cheaper than taking up and replacing.
What weight restrictions would you recommend on a resin driveway?
All standard vehicles are find to drive and park on resin driveways. For motorhomes, lorries and other large vehicles we would recommend just to “drive on, drive off” and limit turning for the longest life expectancy.
Can Vuba be used indoors?
It can, but because it is permeable it can be difficult to clean unless you use our Pore Seal to fill the pores and remove permeability.
Can weeds grow through a resin bound driveway?
Unlike block paving or concrete, water doesn’t sit in the surface and so moss and algae is significantly less. And if the base is prepared correctly, there is nowhere like the joints in blocks for weeds to grow.
do the stones come loose over time?
Absolutely not! Our system is made using specially graded stones, and a high strength 2 component urethane resin for maximum strength and compaction.
